Xilinx feels fortunate to have achieved success in the semiconductor industry and to be able to share its success and improve the community. Thats why Xilinx launched the Be A Champion for Change campaign to challenge other companies to share their success with local communities. The campaign highlights some favorite Xilinx non-profit partners and provides information on how other companies can get involved.
Xilinx Today
Xilinx is a significant force in the semiconductor industry. With locations in San Jose, California; Boulder, Colorado; Albuquerque, New Mexico; Dublin, Ireland; and satellite offices throughout the world, the companys global presence is established and growing. In late 1999, Xilinx joined the S&P 500, and its market capitalization is the second largest semiconductor company in Silicon Valley. As it continues to grow, Xilinx is establishing a global infrastructure to facilitate worldwide expansion. Two primary areas of focus are attracting, retaining and developing key people, and tailoring its sales strategy to better serve each customers unique needs.
As the fastest growing company in one of the most rapidly growing segments of the industry, Xilinx sells its chips to more customers than ever before. The increasing reliance by customers on both distributors as well as contract manufacturers has changed the dynamics of the PLD sales model. As a result, Xilinx has implemented a new, more focused sales strategy to serve a broader base of customers while devoting the proper level of attention to each customer. This more tailored approach was rewarded during 1999 when Cisco Systems presented Xilinx with the Presidents Customer Satisfaction Award, Ciscos highest honor for a supplier.
Xilinx Tomorrow
In fiscal 2001, Xilinx will focus on managing the increasing complexity of designing and manufacturing chips and working in a higher-volume environment. With the flagship Virtex FPGAs, Xilinx will continue to investigate emerging opportunities in the telecommunications and networking sectors that can benefit from speed, complexity and time-to-market advantages. With Spartan FPGAs, XC9500 and CoolRunner CPLDs, Xilinx will continue to aggressively reduce the cost of its chips to gain broader access to high-volume markets, replacing custom gate arrays and other ASIC solutions.
Looking toward the future, Xilinx is providing the vision for an entire new set of applications that allow the programmable logic hardware inside electronic equipment to be upgraded or changed over a network. This is expected to spawn new markets for products such as remotely upgradable communications satellites or consumer electronic products connected to the Internet.
Finally, Xilinx plans to continue setting the PLD industrys pace of innovation by leveraging a focused research and development strategy with key technology partnerships.
